The remuneration thresholds for people applying for an Essential Skills work visa will change, effective from 26 November 2018. The changes are as follows:
|Remuneration||ANZSCO 1-3||ANZSCO 4-5|
|$37.50+ per hour||Higher-skilled||Higher-skilled|
|$21.25 - $37.49 per hour||Mid-skilled||Lower-skilled|
|Less than $21.25 per hour||Lower-skilled||Lower-skilled|
The duration and conditions of an Essential Skills work visa is determined by the skill band of the job offered. The skill band is determined by looking at both remuneration and the ANZSCO level of the job.
Remuneration thresholds are updated each November, based on the New Zealand median wage.
The changes do not affect the duration or conditions of visas that have already been granted. The new remuneration thresholds will only be used to determine the skill level of applications lodged on or after 26 November 2018.
